Day 31 (Travel & Sightseeing) Williams , AZ - Panguitch, UT) 332.2 miles, New Total = 6400.4 miles
Gassed up & left Williams for Utah, but we went through the East side of the South Rim of the canyon on our way. The east road is much more secluded and less visited, but the views are just as magnificent

and the Desert Tower at the East end of the canyon is very special. From the 70 rock tower you can look North up the Colorado and West along the South rim. It actually is the most expansive view of the Canyon in my opinion.

View to the East from the Tower

We expected the drive after we leave the Canyon to be typical SW desert, but we were pleasantly surprised by the awesome views of the Painted Desert, Marble Canyon, Vermillion Cliffs, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, and the many multi colored steps of the Grand Staircase National Recreation Area. A day that we just couldn't take enough pictures (mentally or digitally).

Lake Powell

We stopped for a break in a roadside pull-off  with views of the Little Colorado that also had a group of 6 tables of Native American jewelry/pottery for sale by local tribe persons. We had a pleasant conversation and learned many facts about the area, it's economy, it's people and how they procured water (the most precious commodity in the state).

Our roadside stop

We also went by Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell which are a very revered element of this part of the SE. (evidenced by the number of vehicles we passed with boats, personal watercraft, pontoon boats on both our North and South approaches to the area.

We made so many stops that our day turned out a little longer than we had planned, but it was a very happy tired.

And Mother Nature rewarded us with a wonderful sunset on the fall colors of the mountains.
